Who is David Andreatta?

David Andreatta tells stories.

He’s told stories as a journalist for national news outlets in the United States and Canada, regional daily newspapers, a New York City tabloid, and public broadcasting, among other publications.

He’s told stories as a playwright and an actor who’s as comfortable on the stage as he is in front of and behind the camera.

He’s told stories as a father of two sons and a longtime youth hockey coach. The pre-game Opposite Speech he gave to his Rochester Jr. Americans Peewee players has become legendary.

As a reporter, David has authored “Great Reads” stories for The New York Times, feature stories about Canadian life for The Globe and Mail, and pioneered cross-platform investigative reporting and commentary at the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, New York.

His investigative work earned national and state honors for depth and beat reporting, and his commentary was consistently recognized as among the best in the state. The reward he cherished most, though, came from a reader who once remarked, “The best part of a David Andreatta column is never knowing which David Andreatta will show up.”

His two plays, The Presstitutes (2016, Everybody’s Theatre Co.) and Fielder’s Choice (2017, Hummingbird Theatre Co.; 2018, Rochester Fringe Festival), played to sold-out audiences in Rochester, New York, and he has acted in productions and staged readings at Blackfriars Theatre, Geva Theatre, and JCC CenterStage.

David has degrees from Hamilton College and Syracuse University, and teaches journalism at the University of Rochester.

When he is not clacking away at a keyboard, David can likely be found on a running trail or relaxing at home with his family in Fairport, New York.
